deicer boots

deicer boots
Inflatable rubber boots attached to the leading edges of the wings and empennage, in which compressed air is pumped in to inflate them in a timed sequence. During the process of successive inflation and deflation, the deicer boots break up any ice that may have formed. At the same time, the ice is allowed to be swept away. Boots are generally provided on the leading edges of the main plane, the tail-plane, and the fin.
